When a foreign company chooses a qualified lawyer in Belarus, it is necessary to decide whether to go to a law firm or to an attorney. At first glance, there are no differences between them, but this is far from the case.

Licensed lawyers (hereinafter referred to as a lawyer) act in the format of a law firm in Belarus. They provide legal services to businesses on debt collection, resolution of all types of business disputes, participate in arbitration courts, resolve corporate issues, prepare all types of legal documents, accompany investment projects, conduct negotiations, and accompany all business activities. Accordingly, they work only with businesses. Private lawyers of law firms, unlike attorneys, do not provide legal services to citizens on family, domestic, criminal, labor issues. Thus, law firms in the Republic of Belarus have a narrow specialization, which is their important competitive advantage. As a rule, private lawyers-licensees are narrow–profile specialists with practical experience and special knowledge in the field of business. Such a lawyer faces and resolves a lot of questions on his business specialization on a daily basis and can tell you the optimal profitable solution.

Belarusian attorneys, in turn, provide legal services on various issues, ranging from labor to criminal. The second important difference between the work of attorneys from law firms and lawyers in Belarus is that when hiring a law firm, the client will be assisted by its entire staff: several lawyers with a narrow specialization, such as construction, supply, transportation, corporate issues, etc., as well as back office. Turning to an attorney in Belarus, the contract is concluded directly with him through the appropriate legal advice in which he works. Therefore, if you need to increase the team of defenders, you will have to conclude several contracts with each attorney. Belarusian legislation does not provide for the maintenance of a personal back office by attorneys. All Belarusian attorneys provide services to clients individually (personally), working as part of legal consultations. The legal advice itself does not provide related services to attorneys' clients.

Thus, depending on the type of issue that has arisen, foreign companies in Belarus can receive legal assistance both individually from a specific belarusian attorney working within the framework of legal advice, and from a belarusian law firm represented by a large staff of lawyers and back office employees.
